Venice beach

Venice beach is a well known attraction to people all around the world and is conveniently located in southern California. What many do not realize while visiting Venice is the signification behind it. In 1850 Venice was founded by Abbot Kinney. He created the idea of transforming an ordinary beachfront property into an area culture. Venice beach is an important space because of the interesting history behind it’s architecture, the conceptual idea behind the formation, and the perception people have on it presently.
In 1905 a beach resort town was created by Abbot Kinney and his partner Francis Ryan with the two miles of oceanfront property that they purchased previously in 1891. The resort was built on the North end of the property and was called Ocean Park. After Kinney’s partner Francis Ryan died, Kinney started to build on the south end of the property envisioning a seaside resort designed like it’s namesake in Italy. Venice opened on July 4, 1905. Several miles of canals were dug to drain the swampland in the residential area. In addition to the canals, Kinney built a pier for entertainment as well as  a long street built with venetian architecture.
The conceptual idea behind the formation of Venice was to create a place of culture. They originally wanted it to be like a mini Italy since both of the cities share the same name. The population began to grow because of all the excitement taking place with all the new attractions being created around the town.

Ethnography: zuma beach

For my ethnography I went to zuma beach in Malibu. I chose this place because I was going here over the weekend anyways and I figured it would be a good place to make changes to because it is so empty and clear. My utopian model includes a place to lay out, an umbrella, a beach bar, and a water slide. I think all of these things would be so much fun to have on a beach. The lounge chairs to layout are always convenient because then you don't have to worry about getting sand all over your towel and everything. An umbrella is necessary in case one catches too much sun and gets burnt. There are food shacks at zuma but they need a fun beach bar with a good atmosphere! A water slide would be great for entertainment and I feel like people would have a lot of fun with it. That is my utopian model of zuma beach.

My dream bedroom

My dream bedroom would have a walk way to my bed. Surrounding my the walkway would be a heated pool. My bathroom would be high up so that I have to take a bridge to get to it across the water. The pool would have floaties and things to lay on and relax with. There would be a tile floor so that the water could get on it. My bed would be in the center of everything. I would always throw pool parties if I had this room.

My bedroom

My bedroom is set up the way it is because I feel like it works best with the space given. My bed is set up so it is conveniently facing my tv. Under my window is my dresser that fits there perfectly. Next to my tv is my vanity which I use to get ready. There's alot of open space near it so that I can back up and look at my self in the full view mirror. There's a little hallway in my room that leads to the closet on the right side and the bathroom straight ahead. My closet is very organized because it has built in shelves and drawers as well as hanger rods. My bathroom is pretty basic with just a sink, toilet, and a bathtub/shower. I love hanging out in here because it's the place I feel the most comfortable in my house.
